Technical Search Specialist

The Technical Search Specialist is responsible for performing the search function of the task force incident operation. The Technical Search Specialist reports directly to the Search Manager.


Essential Functions:

The Technical Search Specialist, under the direction of the Search Team Manager, is responsible for supporting the practical search functions of the US&R Task Force. Technical Search Specialist are asked to work with specialized search equipment (night vision, search cameras), develop written search plans, support base and field operations, utilized satellite phone and GPS units, assist in canine operations, and participate in related training and disaster operations.

This position requires participation in rigorous physical and mentally challenging base camp and field operations, encompassing multiple disciplines of the search function in extremely varied and potentially hazardous working conditions. Search Specialist requires the ability to provide both verbal and written interaction with all sections of the US&R Task Force, including: local, state and federal officials. The position also requires working in disaster zones, in adverse weather conditions, hazardous atmospheres, and flight in military or civilian aircraft (fixed and rotary).

As a member of the US&R Task Force you will be asked to represent the local, state and federal government, under extremely diverse conditions.


The Technical Search Specialist is responsible for:

  • Searching structures in US&R environments or other locations indicated in the mission assignment using appropriate technical search equipment and techniques.

  • Documenting locations of alerts and, if possible, triaging the status of victims for rescue.

  • Adhering to all safety procedures

  • Cooperating with and assisting other search and rescue resources.

  • Accountability, maintenance, and minor repairs for all issued equipment

  • Performing additional tasks or duties as assigned during a mission.
