Assistant Fire Training Officer (AFTO)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operations Training and Safety frequently recruits AFTO positions. This is an excellent opportunity to join our training team at the OCFA, serve with a training staff that is committed to quality “hands-on” operational training, be exposed to professional growth opportunities, and positively impact the future of the OCFA.
The person(s) selected will be incorporated into the full range of AFTO roles and responsibilities, including but not limited to: TAG and Reserve Training, Probationary Firefighter Testing and mentoring, and the Safety Officer Program.
SCHEDULE
The AFTO position typically requires a two-year minimum commitment on administrative assignment working a 4/10 schedule (4 AFTOs working Monday-Thursday, and 3 AFTOs working Tuesday-Friday) to ensure coverage of the Training Section from Monday-Friday.
COMPENSATION
*Selected individuals will receive an AFTO bonus of 10% of current base hourly rate, along with the 7.5% staff differential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Instructor 1A and 1B or satisfactory equivalent
• Strong written communications and computer skills
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with others
• Willingness and the ability to work evenings and weekends
• Not currently serving probation in assigned position
